As a Media Officer based in Brussels, you’ll be at the heart of European decision-making, leading impactful media campaigns that amplify citizen voices on global justice, the environment, and democracy. You’ll bring a journalist’s instinct, a communicator’s creativity, and a campaigner’s sense of urgency to shape narratives that move Europe — and the world — to action.
About the Role
The Media Officer will design and deliver high-impact media and communications strategies targeting EU institutions, policymakers, and European audiences. You’ll work closely with Avaaz’s Campaign and Digital Content teams to secure major media coverage, craft compelling stories, and respond rapidly to breaking global issues.
This is a unique opportunity to combine storytelling, political acumen, and campaigning to drive real change from one of the world’s key political centers.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning

Develop and execute human-centered media strategies tailored to EU policymakers, leaders, and audiences.

Identify opportunities for media-driven campaigns and rapid-response interventions.

Collaborate with internal teams to align media outputs with Avaaz’s campaign priorities.
Content & Messaging

Write and edit press releases, op-eds, briefings, and talking points for high-profile issues.

Craft emotionally engaging narratives that resonate across diverse European audiences.

Manage and publish digital media content to amplify campaign goals.
Media Engagement

Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers across Brussels and Europe.

Proactively pitch stories and secure high-impact media coverage.

Serve as a spokesperson when needed and prepare others for media appearances.
Campaign Delivery

Lead the media execution of online and on-the-ground campaign actions, including press stunts and high-visibility events.

Coordinate visits and press opportunities for influential figures advocating for Avaaz campaigns.

Support creative tactics that combine storytelling, visuals, and digital moments for maximum engagement.
Qualifications / Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience in journalism, public relations, communications, or campaigning.

Established media networks in Brussels and across the EU, with eagerness to expand them.

Deep understanding of EU politics and media ecosystems.

Strong storytelling and framing skills — able to turn complex issues into compelling narratives.

Excellent written and verbal communication in English (additional EU languages a plus).

Experience organizing press events, stunts, and media visits.

Ability to work under pressure and manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

High professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to Avaaz’s mission of global justice.

Proficiency in Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and media database tools.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary: €57,000 – €62,000 per annum (depending on experience and location).
