Internship Program Overview

Kiva’s Internship Program offers a hands-on learning experience for individuals passionate about microfinance, technology, and nonprofit operations. As a Kiva intern, you’ll receive mentorship, participate in skill-building workshops, and contribute directly to impactful projects. This remote, U.S.-based role provides valuable exposure to nonprofit management and financial inclusion.

About the U.S. Program

Kiva U.S. is a direct-to-borrower program that provides 0% interest, no-fee loans to financially excluded entrepreneurs across the United States. The program focuses on expanding access to capital for underserved groups including women, people of color, and the underbanked. It also promotes connections between borrowers and local technical assistance providers.

Role Overview

The U.S. Operations Intern will work closely with Kiva’s U.S. Operations team, supporting entrepreneurs from loan application to fundraising and beyond. You will help manage borrower communications, screen loan applications, and contribute to process improvements that enhance the borrower experience. This role also offers opportunities to engage in cross-functional projects in data analysis, product design, communications, and impact storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve U.S. loan applications

  • Support borrowers via text and phone during the fundraising process

  • Assist with delinquency management and repayment plans

  • Contribute to operational improvements and pilot new systems

  • Collaborate with the Partnerships team to enhance partner experiences

  • Conduct feedback analysis from applicants and partners to improve service delivery

  • Gather borrower stories to support impact communications

  • Help improve internal training materials for Capital Access Managers

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 21 years old by July 15, 2025

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship)

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability

  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently

  • Experience in Google Workspace; Excel and Word proficiency preferred

  • Organized and adaptable, with an interest in startup-style environments
