About Climate Defiance

Climate Defiance is a bold direct-action group working to end fossil fuel extraction and elevate climate change as a top political priority in the U.S. We use nonviolent civil disobedience, strategic communication, and mass mobilization to force real accountability from political leaders and corporate executives. Our work has already halted drilling on tens of millions of acres, paused gas exports, and triggered resignations at the highest levels of power. Now, we’re growing our team to continue this fight—and we’re looking for a creative and driven Social Media Content Creator to join us.

Role Summary

The Social Media Content Creator will lead the creation and management of high-impact digital content across major platforms. This position plays a central role in building a viral online presence that drives action, challenges power, and mobilizes support for climate justice.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute social media strategy and content calendar

• Create compelling written content for Twitter, Threads, and Bluesky

• Produce face-to-camera and explainer videos for TikTok and Instagram Reels

• Manage and grow new media channels including YouTube and podcasts

• Design memes and other creative visuals

• Assist with email campaigns and website content as needed

• Track performance metrics and progress toward digital engagement goals

• Contribute to the overall communications narrative of Climate Defiance

• Travel to participate in and document live direct actions

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience creating viral content for progressive causes

• Track record of producing social media posts that generate tens of thousands of likes/shares

• Strong interest or experience in climate justice and environmental advocacy

• Skilled in video editing and content creation for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube

• Ability to work independently and take initiative

• Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in grassroots organizing or advocacy campaigns

• Background in direct action or nonviolent confrontation

• Familiarity with podcast production and email campaign writing

• Commitment to racial, economic, and environmental justice
