About the Role

The Wikimedia Foundation seeks a Senior Manager for Major Gifts & Planned Giving to lead a dynamic team in driving $10,000+ fundraising efforts and planned giving strategies. Supporting both the Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia Endowment, this role is crucial for sustaining and scaling major donor relationships as part of a $100M campaign for the Endowment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Recruit, retain, and mentor a team of fundraising professionals.
    • Set clear work plans and performance goals.
    • Provide training and professional development opportunities.
  • Fundraising Strategy & Implementation:
    • Achieve annual fundraising goals for major gifts and planned giving.
    • Develop strategies for the Wikimedia Endowment’s 10-year campaign.
    • Mature the planned giving program, ensuring a robust pipeline for long-term support.
  • Donor Engagement:
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors and prospects.
    • Collaborate with executives and board members on high-value donor engagements.
  • Event Management & Stewardship:
    • Partner with team members to design impactful fundraising events.
    • Strengthen stewardship and donor recognition programs.
  • Partnership Development:
    • Work closely with the Endowment Board of Trustees to shape fundraising strategies.
    • Identify new board members to enhance donor engagement.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Oversee portfolio management and prospecting systems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize donor journeys.

Skills and Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of successful experience in fundraising, with a focus on individual major donors and planned gifts ($10K–$1M+ range).
  • Proven ability to craft and implement endowment and planned giving strategies.
  • Team leadership experience, including mentoring staff across various experience levels.
  • Knowledge of major gift activities such as direct solicitations, planned giving, and event management.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage confidential donor information with discretion.
  • Experience working in remote and distributed teams.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs and environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with technical or scientific donors.
  • Track record in working with cross-cultural or international donors.

Compensation & Benefits

  • US Salary Range: $134,147–$203,434 annually, adjusted for non-US locations.
