The Opportunity

As Thunderbird prepares to launch a global subscription service, we are significantly expanding our financial operations, especially around revenue tracking, indirect tax compliance, and multi-jurisdictional reporting. We are seeking a Senior Accountant to lead core accounting processes, enhance financial systems, and support scaling into a global environment.

This high-impact role requires both hands-on accounting skills and the ability to build scalable structures. Reporting to the Managing Director of Operations, you will collaborate closely with our Finance & Accounting Specialist and play a key role in shaping the organization’s finance function.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting & Financial Operations

• Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.

• Manage accounts payable, reimbursements, and credit card expense reviews for accuracy and compliance.

• Oversee relationships with outsourced accounting providers.

• Prepare monthly financial statements and provide insights to support leadership decisions.

Revenue & Tax Compliance

• Ensure accurate accounting for revenue from global donation and subscription platforms (Stripe, PayPal, Paddle, Google Play).

• Monitor and support compliance with global indirect tax requirements (U.S. sales tax, VAT, GST).

• Coordinate tax registrations, filings, and remittances across jurisdictions in collaboration with external advisors.

• Stay current on regulations impacting digital services and international operations.

Process Improvement & Scaling

• Strengthen internal financial controls, policies, and procedures.

• Support financial system integrations and enhancements.

• Collaborate on budgeting, forecasting, and reporting improvements.

• Assist with audit readiness, tax filings, and compliance initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in consumer-facing, international companies (SaaS, mobile apps, or digital platforms).

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and compliance requirements.

• Experience with revenue accounting and indirect tax compliance for digital services.

• Skilled in managing relationships with external accountants and tax advisors.

• Proficiency with cloud-based accounting software (preferably Sage Intacct).

• Ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed team across time zones.

• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Self-starter with adaptability to a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment.

Preferred

• CPA, CA, or equivalent certification.

• Experience with international subscription revenue models.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range (U.S.): $90,000 – $110,000 USD
