About World Bicycle Relief
World Bicycle Relief (WBR) is a mission-driven global non-profit social enterprise that empowers people in marginalized communities with life-changing bicycles. Since inception, WBR has distributed over 900,000 purpose-designed Buffalo Bicycles and trained more than 3,250 community-based mechanics, enabling access to education, health services, and economic opportunities.
Through the Mobilized Communities (MC) Program, WBR provides bicycles to schoolchildren, health workers, and entrepreneurs in low-income regions to improve mobility, education, and livelihoods.
Project Background
Between 2020 and 2025, WBR implemented the MC Program in Hwange, Zimbabwe, distributing over 6,000 bicycles. As the program concludes, WBR seeks to conduct an endline evaluation to:

Assess patterns of bicycle usage among recipients.
-
Evaluate the impact of bicycle ownership on education, health, mobility, and livelihoods.
-
Determine changes in socio-economic conditions of program beneficiaries.
-
Examine sustainability of the local bicycle ecosystem (repairs, spare parts, mechanics).
-
Identify successes, challenges, and lessons learned during program implementation.
The evaluation will compare endline data with baseline surveys and use both quantitative (household surveys) and qualitative (FGDs, key informant interviews) methods.
