About Panthera
Panthera is the only global NGO exclusively dedicated to the conservation of all 40 wild cat species and their ecosystems. With a network of biologists, scientific institutions, and conservation partners, Panthera designs and implements effective strategies to ensure the long-term survival of these keystone species.
Operating in Malaysia since 2020 through its legal entity Panthera Malaysia, the organization launched Project Tekai in 2023 to support the protection and monitoring of the Malayan tiger and other wild cats in the Al-Sultan Abdullah Royal Tiger Reserve (ASARTR).
Position Summary
Panthera is seeking a Project Coordinator to lead its conservation efforts in Malaysia’s Tekai Core Area. The successful candidate will oversee field operations, manage project data and logistics, liaise with partners and government entities, and ensure delivery of conservation goals in line with Panthera’s regional strategy.
The Coordinator will report to the Malaysia Country Manager and may support other Panthera projects across the region when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership

Supervise field patrols, biological monitoring, and anti-poaching operations

Oversee community engagement initiatives within the reserve

Develop strategic work plans aligned with project targets
Stakeholder Engagement

Maintain strong relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and community partners

Represent Panthera at meetings and workshops at regional and national levels
Data & Financial Management

Ensure proper data collection, storage, and reporting protocols are followed

Manage and forecast project budgets; prepare financial and technical donor reports
Team Management

Lead hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of project staff

Coordinate team logistics, including procurement of equipment and field supplies
Compliance & Reporting

Ensure project compliance with national laws and Panthera’s internal policies

Regularly report progress to internal and external stakeholders
Essential Requirements
Education & Experience
-
Master’s degree in Biology, Conservation, Social Sciences, or related fields

Minimum 8 years of professional experience, including 4 years managing field-based projects
Technical & Language Skills
-
Strong knowledge of GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and R-based data analysis

Fluency in both Bahasa Malaysia and English (spoken and written)

Valid Malaysian Class D driving license

Ability to work in remote areas under challenging conditions
