Position Overview
Chemonics is seeking a Program Director to lead projects within its Global Health Division. This role combines senior-level leadership, technical expertise, project management, and new business development. The Program Director will supervise projects, manage financial performance, contribute to corporate strategies, and foster staff development while ensuring the successful execution of global health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Provide leadership for program implementation, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the Chief of Party on work plans, resource allocation, progress reporting, and strategy development.
- Supervise financial performance, project startups, and closeouts.
- Conduct supervisory visits to assess project activities and provide technical oversight.
- Manage recruitment and staffing for projects in alignment with corporate policies.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize profitability and mitigate risks.
Technical Leadership
- Apply advanced technical expertise to achieve project objectives and support new business efforts.
- Ensure high-quality project deliverables and troubleshoot deviations from technical objectives.
- Advance industry knowledge and represent Chemonics at conferences and in publications.
- Set billability targets and conduct billable assignments.
New Business Development
- Analyze trends in development funding to identify opportunities for growth.
- Take leadership roles in proposal development, bid strategies, and team-building efforts.
- Cultivate relationships with clients, consultants, and counterparts to expand market share.
- Develop and negotiate strategic partnerships.
Management and Leadership
- Supervise and mentor team members, promoting professional development.
- Build an inclusive, collaborative work environment aligned with Chemonics’ values.
- Promote cooperation across teams and create strong partnerships between project and corporate offices.
- Provide timely and constructive performance feedback to staff.
- Serve as acting SVP or Chief of Party, as required.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant project management experience.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience leading teams.
Technical and Leadership Skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical and managerial challenges.
- Advanced knowledge of financial and project management systems.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality technical reports and presentations.
- Recognized as an experienced international development practitioner.
General Skills
- Strong decision-making, organizational, and leadership capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience living or working in developing countries is preferred.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to three months per year.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Language proficiency for assigned geographic areas is preferred.

- Salary Range: $103,680 – $129,600 (based on education, experience, and other factors).
