Project Overview

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is implementing a three-year project in several Caribbean nations (St. Lucia, Grenada, Dominica, and others) to strengthen surveillance and diagnostics for veterinary and zoonotic pathogens. This consultancy focuses on reinforcing legal frameworks for pandemic prevention through a One Health approach.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate national legal experts

  • Support the development of national legal reports and organize stakeholder consultations

  • Draft and revise sector-specific legislation relevant to One Health and zoonotic disease control

  • Liaise with national counterparts and lead bilateral/multilateral meetings

  • Contribute to regional consultations and comparative legal analysis

  • Prepare a final regional report with findings, legal assessments, and policy recommendations

  • Participate in regional travel missions and online events as needed


Candidate Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Law or related field

  • At least 7 years’ experience in legal matters related to One Health, pandemic prevention, or animal health

  • Working knowledge of English (Level C)

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with the UN, regional entities, and government operations

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Experience in legal drafting and national project implementation

  • Knowledge of agrifood systems, biodiversity, and health law

  • Prior work in the Caribbean region is a plus
