The UK Association for Transactional Analysis is a professional charity and membership organisation dedicated to the advancement of Transactional Analysis (TA) as a therapeutic, educational, and organisational methodology. We support practitioners, trainers, and students through professional development, accreditation, and a strong sense of community.


About the Role

UKATA is seeking a strategic yet hands-on Managing Director to lead the organisation into its next chapter of growth and impact. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Managing Director will play a central role in both high-level strategic planning and day-to-day operational leadership.

This is a unique opportunity to work remotely, lead a passionate team, and directly influence how Transactional Analysis is promoted and supported across the UK.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement strategic plans

  • Lead operational delivery across all functions: membership, finance, communications, and governance

  • Oversee financial management, including budgeting, investment strategies, and fundraising

  • Direct the development and implementation of digital systems and member services

  • Manage UKATA’s National Conference and quarterly magazine

  • Cultivate strong relationships with members, volunteers, TA training institutes, and international TA organisations

  • Ensure charity compliance, annual filings, and fulfil Company Secretary duties

  • Support a small team of employees and contractors while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment


About You

Essential:

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior role (non-profit sector preferred)

  • Strategic vision with a strong ability to implement operational plans

  • Financial management skills, including budgeting and reporting

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities

  • Highly self-motivated with a remote work mindset

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the mental health or therapy sector

  • Familiarity with Transactional Analysis or willingness to learn

  • Educated to degree level
