Operating in seven countries across Sub-Saharan Africa, Tiko tackles the Triple Threat of early pregnancy, HIV, and gender-based violence using an innovative, girl-centric technology platform. About the Role
As a Java Backend Engineer, you will be a critical member of Tiko’s agile tech team. Your role involves building secure, scalable software systems that power Tiko’s health and wellbeing services platform. You’ll contribute to both the development of new features and the improvement of existing functionality.
Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain Java backend features with a strong focus on quality and scalability.

Ensure security and privacy compliance in all code and data handling.

Actively participate in agile development rituals and contribute to collaborative problem-solving.

Document code and architecture to ensure maintainability.

Stay current with technological trends and continuously enhance your development skills.
Qualifications
Required:
-
Minimum 5 years of experience in Java backend development using tools and frameworks such as Spring.

Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, best practices, and scalable architecture.

Excellent written and spoken English.

Must be based in Portugal, South Africa, or Kenya.
Preferred:
-
Experience with microservices architecture.

Familiarity with AWS cloud services.
