Position Summary
Reporting to the SVP of Human Resources, the Human Resources Director will lead HR operational functions across Opportunity’s African countries and India. The role includes oversight of compliance, recruitment, employee relations, payroll, compensation, benefits, performance management, and HR systems administration.
Key Responsibilities
1. HR Leadership & Compliance

Provide day-to-day HR leadership and coaching to managers in Africa and India.

Ensure HR practices align with Opportunity’s policies and are compliant with local laws.

Guide on employment relations, investigations, and labor compliance.

Partner with legal counsel and participate in HR policy updates and risk management.
2. Operations & Administration

Oversee HR operations and systems, including HRIS and Learning Management System (LMS).

Manage payroll and benefits processes in countries with and without local entities.

Supervise vendor relationships for benefits and HR services.

Ensure employee records are up-to-date and data-driven reporting is in place.

Administer handbooks and ensure policies are understood and implemented.
3. Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

Lead the recruitment and onboarding process for Africa-based roles.

Support hiring managers throughout recruitment, vetting, and offer processes.

Manage the requisition approval process for regional hires.
4. Mid-Level Management

Supervise an HR Generalist in Uganda and provide guidance on professional development and performance reviews.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required (HR certification preferred).

7–10 years’ progressive experience in HR roles, preferably with international or multi-country exposure.

Knowledge of employment laws in: DRC, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, India.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational change management skills.

HRIS experience and strong command of Microsoft Office.

Fluency in English required; French or Spanish is a plus.

Travel Requirement

Up to 10% international travel within Africa.
