Position Overview

The Fundraising Officer will play a key role in OCCRP’s resource development efforts, with a focus on grant writing and donor prospecting, particularly in relation to European Union funding opportunities. The officer will collaborate with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the wider fundraising team to support OCCRP’s global mission through high-quality proposals, donor engagement, and effective data management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, draft, and submit compelling grant proposals, concept notes, and letters of intent, especially targeting European Commission and EU-related funding opportunities.

  • Identify new funding prospects aligned with OCCRP’s mission and goals.

  • Develop and maintain standard fundraising materials, templates, and promotional content in collaboration with the communications team.

  • Support donor engagement activities, including correspondence, relationship-building, and timely responses to requests.

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of fundraising and grant activities in OCCRP’s CRM system.

  • Ensure donor recognition and acknowledgment in coordination with the communications team.

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong belief in the role of investigative journalism in strengthening democracy, fighting corruption, and protecting human rights.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Skilled communicator able to write persuasively and clearly for diverse donor audiences.

  • Proactive and adaptable, ready to contribute across different aspects of fundraising.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Journalism, Foreign Policy, or a related field.

  • 3–5 years of proven experience in grant writing, with a successful track record in securing funding from public and private sources, especially the European Union.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas concisely and persuasively.

  • Strong research skills and familiarity with donor prospecting databases.

  • Experience managing donor relations and cultivating funding partnerships.

  • Knowledge of philanthropic trends and nonprofit fundraising practices.

  • Proficiency with Google Suite, CRM systems, and grant management software.
