Overview
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is recruiting multiple Energy Efficiency and Green Buildings Technical Specialists on a retainer basis to support the organization’s climate action and emission reduction goals. This role will contribute directly to UNOPS’ strategic plan (2022–2025) and the UN Sustainability Strategy 2020–2030.
Retainers will be called upon for short-term assignments related to energy audits, sustainability assessments, smart meter installations, and development of green building feasibility studies.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Assessments and Audits

Conduct in-person, detailed surveys of UNOPS facilities worldwide

Assess energy supply sources and identify challenges

Review electrical distribution networks and safety

Install smart meters with support from HQ specialists

Evaluate facility compliance with green building systems

Identify opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy adoption
Technical and Advisory Tasks

Draft technical documents such as BoQs, specifications, SoPs, and compliance criteria

Support development of training materials for stakeholders

Participate in technical meetings and provide on-call technical support

Collaborate with various internal units to ensure consistent implementation of strategies
Reporting

Prepare comprehensive reports for review and approval by supervisors
Requirements
Education
-
Advanced degree in Engineering, Energy, Environmental Science, or a related field
Experience
-
Proven experience in energy efficiency projects, technical audits, or green building design

Experience with smart metering, energy assessments, and infrastructure sustainability
-
Familiarity with UN, governmental, or public sector building standards is an advantage
Language
-
Fluency in English required; knowledge of additional UN languages is an asset

This is a retainer position with assignments issued on an as-needed basis

Travel to UNOPS field offices may be required depending on assignment
