Role Overview

The Director, Fund Investments will lead the investment operations of the Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund, overseeing fund sourcing, due diligence, risk management, regulatory compliance, and team development. This role plays a central part in driving sustainable poverty reduction through impact investing in emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Due Diligence & Execution (40%)

  • Source and screen eligible investment vehicles.

  • Lead and manage full due diligence processes.

  • Build economic models, negotiate terms, and structure deals.

  • Prepare and present investment memos to the committee.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management (20%)

  • Monitor compliance with internal and external regulations.

  • Oversee risk exposure and ensure alignment with investment policies.

  • Support conditions precedent/subsequent reviews.

Team Management & Industry Engagement (20%)

  • Mentor and manage a team of investment professionals.

  • Promote cross-functional collaboration and uphold MEDA’s values.

  • Represent the Fund within industry networks and events.

Audit and Administrative Support (20%)

  • Coordinate investment committee documentation.

  • Collaborate with finance teams for accurate impairment reporting.

  • Ensure alignment with audit and board reporting standards.

Organizational Contributions

  • Uphold MEDA’s policies and procedures.

  • Participate in organizational branding and representation.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.

  • CFA or MBA preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 13 years in private equity, venture capital, or fund-of-funds roles.

  • Strong background in investment analysis, fund structures, and documentation.

  • Debt fund exposure is a plus.

Skills:

  • Advanced investment modeling and due diligence capabilities.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

  • Strong analytical and risk assessment competencies.
