About Project Expedite Justice (PEJ)
PEJ is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that addresses mass atrocities and human rights abuses globally. PEJ employs a victim-centered approach to justice by partnering with local lawyers and investigators, building local capabilities, and providing legal consulting to represent victims of international crimes.
PEJ operates with a global, diverse team and is deeply committed to increasing opportunities for legal professionals and human rights defenders from the global majority to participate in international rule-of-law-based work.
The Opportunity
The Development Manager will lead all fundraising and development efforts to support PEJ’s mission. This includes crafting strategies, fostering donor relationships, organizing fundraising events, and creating innovative initiatives to meet the organization’s financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising Strategy and Planning
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve annual financial goals.
- Design and manage campaigns and annual giving initiatives.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, government funders, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
- Research and pursue prospective funding opportunities, including writing applications and letters of inquiry/intent.
2. Donor Relations and Stewardship
- Build and manage relationships with current and prospective donors.
- Create and execute a robust donor stewardship program, including timely acknowledgments and impact reports.
3. Event Planning and Management
- Plan and execute fundraising events such as webinars and initiatives targeting specific needs.
- Oversee event logistics, including sponsorships, venue selection, volunteer management, and promotion.
- Evaluate event success and identify areas for improvement.
4. Marketing and Communications
- Collaborate with the communications team to refine fundraising-related materials.
- Ensure consistent messaging across brochures, newsletters, social media, and the website.
5. Database Management and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of fundraising activities and donor interactions using Neon CRM and Google Drive.
- Prepare reports on fundraising progress for leadership.
- Analyze data to identify trends and inform future strategies.
6. Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Collaborate with internal teams to align fundraising goals with the organization’s mission.
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational leadership discussions.
Qualifications and Attributes
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development or fundraising, ideally focused on human rights.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with U.S. federal (e.g., USAID, DRL, Department of State) or EU government donors.
Skills and Knowledge
- Proven success in developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
- Strong relationship management skills across diverse donors and institutions.
- Proficiency with donor databases, CRM systems, social media platforms, and Microsoft Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work across multiple time zones.
