Tiko is hiring a Data Engineer to strengthen its data infrastructure and champion automated data quality assurance. This role is ideal for a senior data professional passionate about transforming data into insights that support impactful programs for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) across Africa.

About Tiko
Tiko is a nonprofit organization that empowers girls and young women in Sub-Saharan Africa to take control of their sexual and reproductive health. Founded in 2014, Tiko addresses early pregnancy, HIV, and gender-based violence through a girl-centered digital platform that connects users with health services, information, and local support systems. Tiko operates in seven countries: Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Zambia, and Nigeria.

Your Role as Data Engineer
As Data Engineer, you will ensure data is accurate, accessible, and actionable. You will lead the development of automated data QA systems, enable insight generation, and contribute to the reliability of Tiko’s digital health platform. You’ll work in a fast-paced, agile team that values collaboration, autonomy, and data-driven impact.
Key Responsibilities

Translate business needs into scalable, technical data solutions

Ensure seamless access to data from multiple internal sources

Design, build, and maintain tools to analyze trends and support decision-making

Lead implementation of automated data QA testing and champion data reliability

Create clear, actionable reports to guide global and local teams

Collaborate with developers and analysts in an Agile working environment
About You
You’re a data expert with a strong background in engineering and analytics. You are passionate about data quality, automation, and using insights to inform action. You thrive in collaborative environments and have a proven ability to translate technical data challenges into real-world impact.
Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 8 years of experience working with complex datasets

Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases

Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure

Practical experience with Python, Terraform, and Airflow

Familiarity with tools such as Lambda, Flyway, dbt, pgTAP, PostgreSQL
-
Experience in managing data structures, metadata, ETL processes, and pipeline automation

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including handling unstructured data

Fluent in English

Compensation and Benefits
Monthly Salary Range:

Portugal: €2,965 – €4,942 gross

South Africa: R69,602 – R116,003 gross
