Ember is a global nonprofit think tank focused on accelerating the clean energy transition. As the only organization globally dedicated to tackling methane from coal mining—a critical but overlooked source of greenhouse gas emissions—Ember is at the forefront of research and policy advocacy in this space. With a growing international presence, including teams in Indonesia, India, and Europe, Ember now seeks two Australia-based analysts to expand its impact.


Role Overview

These roles will focus on advancing methane abatement policy and action in Australia while contributing to Ember’s global coal mine methane (CMM) program. The Senior Analyst will lead strategy, stakeholder engagement, and research coordination, while the Analyst will focus on data collection, reporting, and partner support.


Responsibilities

Senior Analyst

  • Lead CMM strategy and advocacy in Australia.

  • Manage research projects and delivery alignment with global objectives.

  • Build and maintain high-level networks across government, industry, and research sectors.

  • Guide team outputs, including media articles and technical reports.

  • Engage directly with legislators and supervise junior staff.

Analyst (Mid-Level)

  • Research and compile emissions data for reporting.

  • Draft reports and articles to influence public and policy discourse.

  • Coordinate civil society and partner engagement.

  • Support government outreach and CMM policy advocacy.


Requirements

Senior Analyst Must-Haves

  • Extensive experience in data-led policy research and impact.

  • Deep understanding of Australia’s energy/climate landscape.

  • Strong networks in coal, methane, and policymaking.

  • Exceptional writing, public speaking, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience leading teams and projects independently.

Analyst Must-Haves

  • 3+ years’ experience in energy/climate policy or research.

  • Proficiency with emissions data and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote, multicultural team.
