Position Summary

The Campaigner & Scientist will lead and implement strategic campaigns on ocean conservation, particularly focusing on protecting endangered marine life. This hybrid role combines scientific research with activism, organizing protests, and building coalitions to effect policy change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute local, regional, and state-level campaign strategies

  • Coordinate with program staff to advance legal and policy goals

  • Build and maintain coalitions with local communities and organizations

  • Organize and participate in events, hearings, and protests

  • Conduct scientific research and draft comments, petitions, and other materials

  • Serve as a media spokesperson and represent the Center to decision-makers

  • Create compelling written content, from op-eds to digital action alerts

Qualifications

  • 1–5 years of campaign experience

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field or equivalent experience

  • Strong scientific literacy in ocean conservation and wildlife issues

  • Experience leading advocacy campaigns and engaging with policy processes

  • Excellent written, verbal, and facilitation skills

  • Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion

  • Ability to travel and occasionally work evenings/weekends
