The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a global leader in emergency response and humanitarian development, operating in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. The Associate Director of Major Giving – West is a senior position within the USA Philanthropy department, focused on growing major gift support from high-net-worth individuals located west of the Mississippi River.
This role plays a critical part in engaging new donors, managing a high-value portfolio, and driving multi-year giving strategies. It also involves leading and mentoring a team of frontline fundraisers, with the ultimate goal of increasing unrestricted revenue to support IRC’s global mission.
Key Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of 75–100 high-net-worth individual donors, overseeing all phases of the donor lifecycle

Develop and execute donor strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

Personally close five- and six-figure gifts and build pipelines for long-term giving

Coordinate and prepare briefing materials for donor meetings, including those involving senior IRC staff

Supervise and coach two frontline fundraisers, supporting their professional growth and performance

Collaborate with internal teams and departments to align fundraising goals with organizational priorities

Track performance and progress toward financial goals using CRM systems and donor data analysis

Contribute to special projects and initiatives as needed
Candidate Profile
Minimum Requirements

6–8 years of progressive experience in major gift fundraising or high-level donor engagement

Demonstrated experience in managing and closing significant individual gifts

Proven supervisory skills with a track record of building and supporting high-performing teams

Record of success securing blended and multi-year gifts

Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication abilities

Strategic thinking and the ability to align donor interests with program impact

Familiarity with CRM systems and financial data analysis

Understanding of donor motivations in humanitarian, social justice, and equity-focused giving

Willingness to travel, particularly to the Bay Area, as needed for donor engagement
