Introduction

UN Women is seeking a Communications Consultant to design and deliver a strategic communications package that highlights its Sustainable Finance Programme. This consultancy will focus on developing impactful communication materials, visibility strategies, and digital products that showcase UN Women’s leadership in financing for gender equality and sustainable development.

Working remotely, the consultant will collaborate with the Sustainable Finance team to produce evidence-based content, media assets, and communication tools that engage diverse audiences, including donors, partners, and financial institutions.

Objectives of the Consultancy

Primary Objective

  • Develop a comprehensive communications and visibility package showcasing UN Women’s leadership, results, and innovations in sustainable finance.

  • Create visually compelling and strategic media assets that effectively communicate impact and attract new funding and partnerships.

Secondary Objective

  • Strengthen the Sustainable Finance Programme team’s communication capacity through guidance on strategic content development, dissemination practices, and performance tracking tools.


Key Responsibilities

Phase I: Communication and Visibility Planning

  • Review program results and achievements against donor commitments.

  • Develop a detailed communications and visibility workplan with key messages, tools, and dissemination strategy.

  • Prepare an Inception Report outlining methodology, deliverables, and timelines.

Phase II: Content Development

  • Draft high-quality communication materials including brochures, infographics, video scripts, social media content, and knowledge briefs.

  • Support communication needs for events, roundtables, and workshops.

  • Incorporate feminist finance narratives and best practices into all materials.

Phase III: Finalization and Dissemination

  • Produce a comprehensive final package, including:

    • 4-year Programme Results Demonstration Report.

    • Achievements Brochure for partners and donors.

    • 2–3-minute video highlighting impact stories.

    • 5 knowledge briefs or articles for UN Women platforms.

  • Develop internal guidance for content dissemination and future communication use.

Qualifications / Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s degree in communications, social sciences, development studies, or related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in strategic communications, content development, or media production.

  • Proven experience producing communication materials for international organizations.

  • Knowledge of sustainable finance, gender equality, or ESG topics is highly desirable.

  • Experience developing visual and digital media content (graphics, videos, photography) preferred.

  • Previous experience with UN Women or the UN System is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible content.

  • Experience developing and implementing communication strategies.

  • Familiarity with gender-sensitive and inclusive communication approaches.

  • Strong project management and coordination abilities.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English required.

  • Knowledge of French, Spanish, or another UN language is an asset.
